2005:
Skaglitelli de Stetson is Vernaccia's third & final cria. He is one of the streightest Nachos has had & doesn't
seem to follow the patterns of his older siblings in conformation. He is a joy to work with, he learns so quickly & he
should be a great PR, pack & cart llama if his conformation doesn't turn out good enough for him to be a stud.
Skaglitelli is as big of blessing as the other two, but he has his own special way of being a miracle, just being is
his miracle. He was born July 14th of 2005. It was a sweltering hot day with the sun beating down as hot as it could. Vernaccia
must have gone into labour around 1-3 in the afternoon. I wasn't home, I was in town enjoying myself with my mom & brother,
trusting that Nachos would be able to safely deliver the baby by herself. My nerves were ever at me, I had, had a bad feeling
about this birth ever since May. I had stayed home for days waiting & I knew the days of getting away without missing
it were over & I had a good feeling there would be a cria on the ground when we got home. The bad feeling had left &
though my mind was on Nachos at home I was still enjoying myself, having a good time.
The day grew to a close & before I knew it, it was time to go home. As we drove down the road, an anxious feeling came
over me. The gate to our driveway was undone & we pulled through the gate & down the driveway.
I got out of the car & the first thing I did was run to check Nachos. She was in the front yard so it was easy access.
There she layed, on her side, her neck stretched out I thought I was seeing my only producing dam & my friend dead before
my eyes, but before it could sink in she wined & I knew she was OK, or so I thought. I knew something was wrong when she
wouldn't get up, I bailed over the crait in our fence & ran up to her. She sprung to her feet & there hung the head
& half the neck of a dark baby. I felt a sinking feeling like "This isn't happening, it's just a nightmare" but it was
happening. The baby looked dead. I couldn't believe that this was happening, but I did & I just stood there for about
a half second until the baby coughed. It was alive & there was time to save it! At first I thought it moved becuase
Vernaccia moved, but then it coughed again. It's head & neck were fully dry & fluffed out, it had to have
been out for some-time.
I dove right in & started to feel around for leggs, it was in a kush position. My nails were long & I was uneasy
about that so I wasn't being aggressive. I knew I needed my dad I yelled for him & he came. My mom (Carol) yelled
for him also & came with a halter. Nachos, now haltered, stood. My dad (Dave) was in & feeling around, he asked if
the baby could be delivered in this presentation-I told him that I thought they could be. After we prayed & called on
the name of the Lord & my dad pulled & pulled for a little bit, Nachos went down on her side. The baby was almost
free now, my dad pulled it out in a kush position & did my best to comfort her.
After dad got it past the shoulders he delivered it quickly, the baby lived through it & was squirming around on
the ground. Our attentions now turned to Vernaccia. She was just lying there on the ground flat & lifeless, I decided
to put some cold water from the hose on her. Within about 3 minutes she was standing under her own power.
I waited until dusk trying to get a look at the baby nursing, who's neck was now evidently crooked from being cramped
in the womb
Now Stetson is a big fat 3 week old cria growing fat on mom's milk. His neck did finally streighten out the next day
& Vernaccia is fine now too. I owe all the glory to Jesus Christ who created Nachos & Stetson & was with them both &
answered our prayers in the time of need. |
2006:
Stetson has grown into quite a handsome young man! He has his Sires gorgouse fleece & beautiful head! His conformation
must be quite good as he won first in his first conformational class, then preceeded to take Reserve Grand (that was out of
2 llamas). He has a sweet personality & could make some one a pretty good little herd sire, but he has the rope walking
gene in him so I wouldn't trust him as one. He is also going to be agressive, just like his dad. For this reason, he is going
to be gelded this October.
He is very handsome & such a nice guy, never fails to amaze me how willing he is to learn & how much he wants
attention when you walk out into his pasture. He is a fine example of a Llama & has a bright future in show, preformance
& halter, both as well as driving with his brother T-bolt. I hope to put them both under Harness when they are old enough!:)
2007:
Stetson is the now, almost 2 years old! He is turning out to be the streightest, most outstanding llama I own. He's got
a great top line, streight leggs & the pressence to boot! I am very proud to own him! I am glad to say he was gelded last
November & is better off, for it. He still has attitude, he's like raising his dad, all over again! He took the surgey
much better than T-bolt & showed no signs of discomfort, it was an aswered prayer.
Stetson has a bright future as a cart & show animal. He is still as sweet as ever, but as I mentioned before, has
attitude. We are working on this but easy does it. Stetson did wondefully last year at fair & in the next years to come
he will help me to bring the wonder of llamas to a whole new area & enrich the new county fair. Him & T-bolt live
in the same pen & are constantly sparing, or rather Stetson is constantly sparing!
Stetson has turned out to be a gorgeous example of a llama, I am blessed to own him & can't wait to take him to the
top of the show circuit!
2008:
Stetson has come through winter, quite well. His firey personality has not been exstinguished by the extreme cold of
the winter. He bosses his mother around, like he's boss, pins his ears back when I feed him & walks around like he owns
the joint!LOL Stetson is my firey little showman & I don't think that will ever change. He has a personality like no other,
he is just full of character. He's getting really big, now. He still, isn't as big as his brother, but I suspect, he won't
get to much bigger. His fleece has come in nicely, but his cape is matted. This summer he is set to have his first complete
shave, it should be quite a site to see Stetson without any hair!LOL He is growing nicely & should put some flesh on this
summer. He'll get more hight & fill out in the next 2 years. He is a handsome example of a llama & this summer,
along with big bro T-bolt, he will go out of state to grace his new fair with his adorable presence! I may even put him in
the parades, too. Stetson is my skidish boy, he's not as calm and gentle as T-bolt, he seems to always be looking for trouble.
Part of this is because he's young & hasn't seen a lot of life. I hope to, in the summe of 2009 begin to put him under
harness. He is a fine carting prospect, with his streight leggs & back & he's got an unkany will to please. He's a
goer & needs an outlet to put his energy to "good" use. He will excell, probably better than T-bolt, even, in carting.
I can't wait to put him under harness. Stetson will grow for anoth 2 years & who knows what he's gonna look like by the
time he's T-bolt's age. He is a fine example of a llama & he adds pepper to the stew that is Pudgey Paw Acres' llama herd!
2009:
Stetson is almost 4 years old!!! Amazing! My firey little red head is almost an adult! Stetson is in a state of rebellion
right now. He hasn't been worked with through the long winter & I expect a full on attitude this spring! Stetson is a
sweet heart, still, but as he ages, like his dad, he gets more & more attitude. If he stays true to being like his dad,
then he should begin to settle down in the next few years. Stetson will be going to the local Fair this year. He will
probably, like last year, hide behind his brother the whole time. This year Stetson is going to be put under harness &
his pack training should be completed by the spring. Stetson, I have decided, will probably never walk in a parade. He is
just to skittish. His personality is not what I would consider "laid Back". He seems to be always looking for trouble. I can't
believe he will be 4 years old this July!! He'll be done growing & ready for cart training. I can't wait to put him under
harness, he is going to look beautiful pulling that cart. Stetson's fleece is looking absolutely beautiful after being washed
in the snow of winter for months. He will not be shorn this year, he is going to get to have his full fleece until next spring. Stetson's
outlook, is good, but for him I'm sure he's dreading all the things he's about to be taught!
